Why Digital Scrapbooking?

Everyone has their own reasons for Digital Scrapbooking but these are mine:

1. Quick Clean-up: When I returned to work full time, I gave up on scrapbooking. By the time I took everything out and got started scrapping, it was almost time to start cleaning up. With digital, all I have to do is click “save” and then turn off my computer!

2. Affordable: Traditional scrapbooking can be costly. Digital scrapbooking allows me to take advantage of the amazing prices on digital kits (20+ items for $3 or so? You’ll never find that at a scrapbook store!). I can also play around with ideas and change them up without wasting anything! Once my pages are done, I only have to print the ones I want to put in the album.

3. Backup: I always keep a backup copy of each page on a disc. That way when a page is damaged by a viewer, I can print a new one! I also don’t have to use any photos – if I want to scrapbook old non-digital photos, I just scan them!

What IS Digital Scrapbooking?

Basically – it’s scrapbooking on your computer rather then with paper. There are tons of different programs you can use. I use JASC Photoshop Pro and many people use Abode photoshop, GIMP, etc. If you aren’t familiar with graphics programs, there are plenty of programs specifically for digital scrapbooking that allow you to create great pages quickly and very easily.

How to get started Digital Scrapbooking?

1. Get a program. If you have a graphics program you want to use, great. If not there are free ones. GIMP is a free graphics program for those who want to really get into the graphic design aspect (google it). For those who want something just for scrapbooking, Scrapbook Flair offers a great free program with built in backgrounds and embellishments to get you started.

2. Learn your program. A google search for your particular program will turn up plenty of tutorials to help you learn how to use different aspects of your program. Don’t get overwhelmed trying to do it all at once – just pick a tutorial that looks like fun and run with it.

3. Get connected with other scrappers. Another huge plus is the online community – it gives you a chance to learn more, share your pages, find freebies and great new kits, etc.
