So, last night was the big showdown between Tito Ortis and Dana White. For those who don’t know, here is a little of the story. Tito Ortis is a long time UFC fighter and is considered one of the best. Dana White used to be his manager until the oppurtunity came for Dana to purchase the UFC. So, Dana White is now the president of the UFC and Tito’s boss. Tito took the move personally, and it was the starting point of an ongoing feud between the two that has to many issues to list here, lol. Anyway, Tito hit rock bottom recently and his wife called Dana and asked for help – so Dana offered him a job. Tito accepted, on the condition that a sparing match between him and Dana be in the contract. It was supposed to be a private sparing match, but Tito bragged about it so much that it became a very public one.
Last night was an hour and half special on the feud and the fight. It followed Dana, who does have fight history but just recreationally, as he lost 30 lbs and got back into shape in order to keep his promise to enter the ring with Tito and give Tito a chance to vent his anger. During the months leading up to the fight, Dana juggled a huge corporation and a strict training regiment, fought with the boxing commission, and did whatever he had to, all in order to make sure he kept his promise.
The first hour and a bit were following the whole process – not all that interesting really, but knowing the history behind the fight made the coming fight all that more exciting. So we were down to the last 10 minutes, at this point assuming it must have been a very short fight – and it was time for the weigh in. In comes Dana, ready to go – and Tito doesn’t show up! He calls and cancels the fight “letting Dana off the hook” as he puts it! I don’t know what made us the maddest – the fact that we spent an hour and a half WAITING for a fight that NEVER HAPPENED and they still aired the whole load of crap – seriously it was a soap opera on testosterone – or the fact that Tito, who is an *** anyway, talked all that smack, and then DIDN’T SHOW UP!!!!!!!!
I suppose that was the point right? The whole point of broadcasting it was just to let everyone know how much work Dana put in, and how HE was going to keep his promise – and to make Tito look like an ***. In the end, that was definitely successful but really, SO HIGHSCHOOL!!! COME ON!!! Sure, I think Dana is a great guy and Tito is a smuck but I think it was REALLY low of Dana to use that as a publicity stunt. I am sure there are more then a few ticked of fans this morning. I know Dave and Jordan both had a hard time getting to sleep after that, they were TICKED.
